How to stop Group Policy from running in WinXP

2023-03-27 Source:

Group Policy is a tool for users to control the system. Users can quickly call it up through the run window. Group Policy can be used to configure all aspects of system management. It is much more convenient than modifying the registry. But sometimes you want to disable Group Policy from running. How to do it? The editor below will introduce to you how to turn off Group Policy in WinXP system.

Operation steps

1. Run gpedit.msc, expand "User Configuration → Administrative Templates → System" in order, find the "Run only permitted Windows applications" policy in the right window and double-click it, select "Enabled" in the window that opens. At this point we can see that the "Display" button under the window is activated, click "Display → Add", then enter the name of the program that allows Windows to run, such as "Notepad.exe", and finally press the "OK" button.

2. Do not close "Group Policy" immediately at this time. Run "Group Policy" in "Start → Run" and you will find that it can no longer run! Fortunately, we did not close the "Group Policy" program. Now in the "Group Policy" window, set the "Only allow running Windows applications" policy to "Not Configured", and then click the "OK" button.

 3. If you have turned off "Group Policy", you can restore the settings by the following method: restart the computer, press the F8 key when the startup menu appears, select the "Safe Mode with Command Line Prompt" option in the Windows Advanced Options menu, and then run mmc.exe in the command prompt. In the "Console" window that opens, click "File → Add/Remove Snap-ins → Add → Group Policy → Add → Finish → Close → OK". Now that a Group Policy console has been added, just change the original settings back and re-enter Windows.

The above is an introduction to the method of disabling Group Policy in WinXP. Of course, it can be restored if you want to use Group Policy again. Generally, it is not recommended to disable Group Policy.
